Above Board
Today, we are going to learn the meaning of the following phrase:
Above Board
It means when all is honest and straight forward.
When people played lots of card games and board games, certain people would cheat. When they cheated, their hands would be below the table, or board. The honest players would always keep their hands in plain view, hence the term above board.
Example:
- I have read the contract and it is all above board
Homework:
- Create a game by writing scenerios that can be above board and below board (less than honest). Then get your friends to guess whether each scenario is above board, or below board.
