Hi good morning!

I feel a bit under the weather this morning, I was burning the midnight oil last night till about 3:00am!

I was enjoying a great movie with my feet up but was forgetting the time and after the movie finished it was too late!

 ’To burn the midnight oil’ - to stay up late.　夜遅くまで起きている

• I was up burning the midnight oil last night working on my project.　昨日はプロジェクトを夜遅くまでやったよ。
• I have a test tomorrow so I’ll be burning the midnight oil tonight studying! 明日はテストだから今夜は徹夜で勉強しなくっちゃ。

Conversation:

A: Hi Ed you look tired!　エド、疲れてるわね！

B Yes I was burning the midnight oil last night.　うん、昨晩遅くてさ。

A: Why, what were you doing up so late?　どうしたの？何してたのよ。

B: I was trying to finish my report, My deadline was today!　宿題の締め切りが今日でさ、頑張って終わらせたんだ。

The next time you ‘burn the midnight oil’, take a pen and paper and write down a good sentence in English to describe why you are burning the midnight oil.
