The Going Rate For My Job
Today, we are going to learn how to use the phrase:
The going rate for my job.
The going rate for my job is the normal amount of pay you’d expect to receive as a salary in a particular job position
So when you are at a job interview and want to ask “Will I be getting the normal rate of pay for this position?”, you can ask:
- Am I going to get the going rate for my job?
Another example could be:
- Man: I just saw a job advertised, which is offering a salary that is above the the going rate for my job, do you think I should apply for it?
Wife: Yes, of course. You’d be mad not to.
Another use of the term “going rate“, can be used in the following way:
What is the going rate of an evening out?
Which is the same as:
How much do you spend on the average night out?
Homework:
- (1) Have a look through the job section in a newspaper to see if there are any jobs, which are above or below, the going rate for your job.
- (2) Work out the going rate of a normal evening out and compare this with your friends.
Note: The going rate for my job is one of the many phrases, you’ll learn at The Queen’s English School.
